Sharon J. Herring, MD, MPH, is an associate professor of medicine; public health; and obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at Temple University, where she also directs the Program for Maternal Health Equity in the Center for Urban Bioethics. She is a board-certified internist who specializes in obesity medicine and has spent the last 15 years researching optimal strategies for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease risk factors (e.g., obesity, hypertension) in Black and Latina women and birthing people. She has been the principal investigator on grants funded by the National Institutes of Health, PCORI, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and America’s Essential Hospitals, among others.
