Speaker Bio
Vivian W. Pinn, MD, FCAP, FASCP, was the inaugural full-time director of the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH) at the National Institutes of Health and associate director of NIH until her retirement in 2011. In this position she led the implementation of the 1993 NIH Revitalization Act’s call for the inclusion of women and minorities in clinical research. She is currently senior scientist emerita at the NIH Fogarty International Center. Prior to NIH, she was professor and chair of pathology at Howard University College of Medicine and previously held teaching appointments at Harvard Medical School and Tufts University. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and was elected a member of the National Academy of Medicine. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
